are you replacing yours yourself or using a shop? Are you using new parts or parts from salvage? I dunno what to do yet.

Ok for those of you that still have working ac or had ac...is it normal for the compressor to cycle off after its been running for 10 min or so? My g/fs malibu does and wasnt sure if the xj did too. Blows cold air then starts warming up. Shut it off and after 15-20 min it blows cold again. Had it charged and pressure tested and passed with flying colors. Hoping i dont have a wiring issue, or maybe the high pressure sensor is bad... anybody have suggestions?

Who did the pressure testing and exactly what what did they do.

A pressure test involves evacuating the system putting it in a vacuum to remove as much refrigerant as possible. Then charge the system with nitrogen. probably around 250-300 psi. then watch to see if pressure drops. if it drops you have a leak.

You probably have a low charge or debri, or moisture in the system. All of wich can cause freezing in the evaporator and low pressure or possibly a high pressure issue on the discharge side.

Any good shop will cut to the chase and start from scratch. Its really the best way.

Gotta put gauges on it to see whats going on. Could be a bad condenser fan also.

Doing everything myself/with help. Shops charge too much for everything. I'm getting all new parts and replacing every component so I won't have to worry about it anymore.

Whatever is in the box is yours. I didn't need it, and I won't be lifting for a while.

A recharge would require the system to be put on a vacuum first. I sucked mine down to 500 microns about 40 min. The deep vacuum is what boils off moisture and other (stuff) The gauges need to be purged properly when connected to the system also to prevent contamination. Then you can charge the system to an exact amount. The XJ took 20 ounces of R134.

If it was topped off then that means there is a leak.

If it shutting off on a pressure switch it is seen in the gauges. If pressures look good then jump out one switch at a time. or test with a meter to see whats cutting it off. Is the compressor clutch still spinning or is it truly being shut off?
