It was supposed to say withOUT set-up bearings.
Set-up bearings are a life saver. I have a set for a D30 already made up and a set for a D44.

Yes, you use brand new bearings. I bought a new set, sanded out the inside so they slide on and off the carrier. Use them to get a good pattern then when you're done you press the new bearings on for the final assembly.
Run another pattern and you're good to go.

because they are warn down past the specs of a new one and the shims will be different... to get the hub off people have used the steering to press it off actually somehow... something about a extension... DO NOT beat them off with a hammer if you plan to reuse them... thats where i made my boo boo and then the hubs were no good because it separated the bearings on the inside...
