So much for the ride. We met up on the mountain, it procedes to snow a couple of inches in less than 30 minutes. Roads get slick so we decide to go home. Coming down the mountain hit the retaining wall twice and then slide into the grass on the other side. Decided to drive in the grass since it wasn't a sheet of ice. Made it off the mountain to sit on the road to my house 45 minutes to go 7 miles. Slipping and sliding the whole way. I need a 4wd tow rig. This will cost me a bumper, tranny cooler and possibly intercooler on the Cummins and the Jeep never came off the trailer. Great day huh.
That sucks you banged up the tow rig. At least no one got hurt.

Dave, it shouldn't be much farther for you than it is to LC.
We had a hell of a time Saturday! In route to teh mountain, it started darn near white-out snowing as we crested the dam, and by the time we rolled through Hixson, there was 2-3 inches covering everything, including the road!
We threw it in full-time 4wd (kinda cool with the NP242), eased onward and up Montlake Road. Just after the first curve, we found the first of a dozen or so stuck vehicles. 2wd trucks weren't going anywhere past that point! We drove around cars, trucks, minivans, and made it all the way up top, only to get stopped by a CRV in the ditch with a TJ working to pull it out. Road blocked, so we stopped for a few minutes, while the snow was still falling full steam.
After we sat stopped for 5 mins or so, I figured I'd ease on up a little and see if I could help move this operation along. As soon as I moved, I started sliding...backwards. I ended up 50 ft behind where I stopped and 90 degrees to the road. Pucker factor for sure! I couldn't get moving for nothing, I'd back up slowly 4-5 feet then slide back to the shoulder. Since the ditch there was only 18" or so deep and not too bad (from what I could tell), I figured I could get more traction in the rocks/mud/leaves than on the iced-over road. So I bailed in an wheeled the ditch for about 150', went past a few cars, and had a hell of a time getting back on that ice-slick road! Jeep was rocking in the rocks and mud in the ditch, but sucked in the ice/snow (KM2's).
Anyways, called off going all the way to the trail, I figured no one was coming behind me anyway. Crept back down Montlake Road at 6 mph and called it a day. Good time!

Free wheeling areas are going the way of the dinosaur unfortunately. Pay to play is what everyone needs to plan for. The market will determine prices on its own, if it's too much and can be done cheaper, someone will do it. Ultimately our opinions don't matter, if you're willing to spend the money to go, the price isn't too high. If you and too many others decide to pass, then the pricing is an issue.
In the meantime, I'm pretty excited to check out the new trails! The place will probably be packed when it opens!

Key word is for the time being. Both are being sold off and both are private property so it's a matter of time till they are gone. Haven't rode big fork in years but lewis is getting so you get police harassament every trip.

Sucks..Aetna was by far my favorite place.
On another note picked up 2 33 bighorns. If anyone else has a pair of 33s they wanna sell (bighorns would be nice) let me know a price.
