No you don't lol but they are expensive, and Carriers aren't weak, but it would become the weak link.... Alot of people Don't have any issues with Lunchbox lockers. I am not trying to scare you away from them! It jsut comes down to How bullet proof you want it and how much $$ your willing to throw at it to get there...

you think i could get away with just using a thick ring and stock carrier and spartan locker? would you suggest chromoly or just stock shafts? i'd rather have a shaft break then the center if ya know what i mean. i dont really think i'll wheel it too hard but i never know what im gonna do. i wanna take it to moab and if i do i'll end up at least trying the harder stuff. this **** sure does get expensive quickly
You could get away with it just fine... A lot of people do. Here is the main questions I would ask yourself...
Do you hammer down on the throttle?
Do you want to beat on it?
When it starts to hop or feel like its binding do you let off, or keep going?
Do you want to drop the money and have it be bullet proof, or test it and see what the weak link is?
I personally don't think you will have carrier issues. I would Defiantly replace the shafts before I would worry about the carrier. If you looking to build it on a budget I would do this.... (which is what I have for the most part...)
Iron rock rear D44 truss - 99$ (or build your own) http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merch...egory_Code=XDT
Thick R+P -reusing your stock carrier (165$ USA ST, $300 yukon, other brands too)
Spartan Locker (288 on ebay, new)
alloy shafts -Pick your poison but read up on the warranty's, some are 3-5yrs, some 10yrs, some lifetime. some even say they are aloud to buy them self out of the warranty lol
place has a lot of stuff (not the cheapest but you can look then Google brands/part numbers, how I found stuff cheaper) http://randysringandpinion.com/
