well it's not in great shape, so i was planning on getting new bearings, seals, shafts, ring and pinion, and locker... a locker will replace the carrier right? ive never heard but from the pictures it looks like it. i was thinkin about a spartan, but i haven't really looked that far into it yet
Option A - 33 spline Alloys, detroit/arb and call it a day (pretty bullet proof for a D44)
Option B - 30 spline alloys, A Detroit/ARB/Grizzly (for full bodied lockers=Stronger) which will not require a new carrier for the ring and pinion
Option C - (C is for Cheap like me lol) I used stock shafts, a Spartan, and reused my stock Carrier (3.73 and lower) with a THICK ring gear to take up the difference in offset... this leaves the shafts/carrier as the weak link though...
I am in the same situation with mine, I will end up with 30 spline alloys and a Detroit. the 33 spline just doesn't seam worth the money in the long run. Also If you snap a shaft (mine is a DD) on the trail you can't just get a replacement from a JY or parts store to drive home on.... any who just food for thought....
I am a huge Timken Bearing fan. I got all my parts from 6 states as that's what they carry. as well as seals and other misc parts.... (I am sure online is cheaper unless you get a discount there)Almost any online parts stored have the D44 stuff.
Its also a good time to go disk if you want to (doing the ZJ or F8.8 swap)
Also Rubicon ring gears and diff's use a bigger ring gear bolt size. something to keep in mind if you use anything made for a Rubicon lol I had to drill out my carrier and use the big bolts on mine because they sent me a rubicon ring gear and I didn't want to wait to send it back and have a new one shipped out lol

Well, the carrier Can be replaced with a locker, But it needs to be the Full bodied locker and not a Lunchbox locker. If you go 33 spline I think Detroit and ARB are your only options, and they will replace the carrier. However, with Lunch box lockers (aussie. spartan, lockeright ect) they just replace the spider gears, I would recommend either (obviously there are other options and combos just the ones I have thought about doing...)

I assume you mean the Moab's?

Yes and NO, The 16" versions are 5x4.5 and will bolt up(but require spacers with wider tires then stock, from what I have read)
The 17" ones are 5x5.5 and will not work with out adapters...
I have read that some 16" ahd 5x5.5, and some 17" had 5x4.5 but I have never seen them so I don't buy it lol, I would measure before you buy thought!

you don't need a spacer but it helps so you can turn without major rubbing, and yes the TJ and TJU moabs are 5x4.5 and a 16" wheel but the JK and JKU moabs are a 17" wheel and 5x5 not 5x5.5 they are the same as the WK XK and pretty much all the newer jeeps out there that decided to use an oddball pattern.
