no it's the same as a spool, it will have no release or give when making turns or anything. it will fully be engaged at all times.

Just a thought could a long arm kit be used for the rear end too ? The only problem I see is a cross member with a hoop for drive line

Yes Long arms work for a coiled rear, however a radius arm rear is a horrible idea. the cross member isn't really a problem, all depends on how you mount your rear links.

3/4 link is the way to go. Look at Cory's (X1994J) build, he has a long arm type rear setup. Clayton makes a kit as well.
