Speaking of which, I'm not terribly tech savy... YET, when it comes to axles. I dunno really what the difference is between a c-clip and non axle, cept one keeps the wheels from falling off.... Which is which, and which are the LP/HP30s, 35s, 8.25, etc. (stock for cherokees)

"streetable", it's a description that can differ. Specially to those with families, or who drive a lot. Sure you can drive an xj on 37s with a rear locker as your DD, but to some of us that's not practical, or "streetable". Hell even my XJ takes a backseat if I'm hauling the kid around.

xjs 84-99 have the hp d30. better for big lifts. a lp 30 is still ok for lifts 3-4.5", but it also has standard gear rotation which is believe to be a bit weaker. hp 30s have reverse rotation.
00-01 xjs, zjs, wjs and tjs have lp d30.
d35s came in all xjs w/abs. also a lot of zjs (93-95) mainly w/I6. 8.25 in non abs xjs. d44a was in zjs w/v8 96+.
is that what you were asking?

you already have a locker in your 8.25, so need to spend on the gears. Or, you could sell that axle pretty well and buy that 8.8 for about $100 w/4:10s and spend another $300 on the 8.8 locker.
i have seen used 8.8 lockers a lot more than 8.25 though.
i had an 8.25 w/4:56 and powertrax, and sold it for $450 earlier this year.. when I had the zj... You could prob get $300-325 for your axle..
i think it would prob be better to spend on the gears, if you stay w/a 33" tire.

Ben, your jeep looks great, and i bet it prob rides pretty good w/the drop brackets. But still, 12.50 tires put more wear on breaks, and steering and i'm just kinda done w/that. Been driving my stock xj for the last few weeks and it's sooo nice. Peppy, stops nice, drives nice, and get about 17mpg. I think anything over 32s, and you lose a lot of practicality. I want a jeep that will drive like stock, and can take camping and most mid-level trails. I've had 2 pretty built jeeps, and i've sold them both because i couldn't stand driving them on long trips... we'll see if i get this one right.
I thank ya for the compliment, and I kinda agree that they're prolly not ideal, but I think it's a great middle ground. Just upgrade the pads, durango box and reinforce it? I know you have more experience than I, I just haven't really ran into many problems yet. The brakes could definitely be improved, but I don't really hot rod around and I leave plenty of following space typically, so I'm rarely slamming the brakes. I understand the comfort though, mine's kinda lumber-wagon-ish compared to my friend/ex-girlfriends stock XJ... I hear adding some longer arms improve ride quality too though, I wanna ditch these drop brackets asap and get a mid arm setup prolly. I drove to Denver from FoCo last night for the Avs game, stopping in Longmont to pick up my buddy and it was a little much even for me.
x2. And i think Ben is going to have 7 kids hahaha.

c-clip axles will let the wheel fall off, unless you have disc breaks. the rotors will keep the axles in. the d44 is non c-clip and is why it's sought after by the jeep guys.

Yup Frank explained that stuff to me, and I think with what I wanna end up doing, I need the HP.... It's kind of a nasty angle right now, 5.5" and a LP30. I just never really got the run down on c-clip and non.
