Clearly we are talking about rock rings. Not beadlocks. But thanks for telling me how they work again.
Alot of guys on pirate use just the rings. Go look. Alot have there own purpose.

I don't think fabrication saves money vs buying the product. Unless you are fabricating things to sell for profit which I plan on eventually

Rock rings are really a waste of time without bead locks. If your going to take the time to weld up your rimes just get bead locks for $75 more.

Self fab almost always costs as much or more than just buying the product, especially if you count for tooling costs and the appropriate value for your time. But self fabbing sure is a lot more fun than just buying crap. And then you can build it how you want it.

Eh sometimes. You really do save money doing it yourself though. plus little projects are easy to do instead of trying to work around peoples schedules.

Speaking of bending, would one of you with a bender be willing to bend me two pieces of 1" or 1.25" tubing?

I want two ~105º bends (or would you call it 75º) separated by about a foot of straight, with about 6" ends, to form 3 sides of a trapezoid.

Considering that time is one of the most expensive commodities on the planet... If you already have to tools, and the material is easier to obtain than the finished product, and the project doesn't take long to actually make, then yes, it could save you money to do it yourself.

Or if the project was especially complex so that a supplier would charge a premium for their time....

And there are certain services that just generally cost way more than they are actually worth.

But by and large, if you do the math, doing it yourself almost never saves money.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't' do it yourself, just drop the illusion that you are saving all this money. I could have bought a pretty nice vintage Bronco for less than I've spent on my falling apart XJ so far...

Besides, doing it yourself is a great excuse to buy more tools!!
