Denver bs thread
Anyone ever adjusted the worm gear on the steering box to eliminate play? I've been reading about people having success doing it, because I know my steering is tight but I have a ton of play. I can barely go in a straight line and I'm getting death wobble every once in a while. I would do the Durango box but I'm waiting till i have money and the junkyards not a muddy mess
Hey everyone, new to this forum even though my join date says 2009, I recovered an old profile that I started and never used
. Anyone know of any good wheeling clubs/groups in the denver area?? Looking to join one as not too many buddies of mine own 4x4 rigs.

The track bar, ball joints, tie rod ends, drag link adjuster, and control arm bushings also contribute to steering wheel play. Also a loose steering column can make the steering feel sloppy. My steering was horrible because my drag link adjuster clamps were on backwards and my track bar relocation bracket wiggled.

Bottom line, tightening an already tight steering gear will destroy it, but if it is loose it should be tightened. If you want to stop by in Loveland sometime after xmas we can have a look and I'll tell you if your steering gear needs adjustment. If you want to check it completely on your own, lock the steering wheel, jack up the front so the wheels are off the ground, try to steer it by pushing and pulling one of the wheels, and see how far the pitman arm moves. If the pitman arm can turn even though the steering wheel can't, then your steering gear probably needs adjusting, unless there is something loose between the steering gear and the steering wheel, which is less likely but possible.

I thought my drag link adjuster was tight since the nuts were bottomed out until I watched the whole drag link flex at the adjuster every time my friend turned the wheel the other way.
