Another question, I have the option to pick up either:
- Ford Explorer 8.8 with 4.10 gears and disc brakes for $350
- Jeep MJ (Comanche) Dana 44 with 4.10 gears and drum brakes for $350
Both axles would need new leaf spring perches welded on, so that's not an issue either way. The 8.8 is slightly narrower and would need a $175 c-clip eliminator (I don't want C-clips) but the MJ 44 would require $300 in ZJ discs to get disc brakes. Any guidance on which I should pick?

I love my factory Trac-Lok LSD in the back and I would not advise a true locker for the street.
I watched that video of the Volvo LSD for the front. Obviously it works but what I did not like is having to shorten one axle by 3/8". Axles are heat treated and cutting it involves a lot of heat and the potential that you are weakening the axle. Just my two cents. I would rather buy a LSD designed for the Jeep.

More advice needed.
The pinion on my LP Dana 30 has slop in it. I did some research and it seems the low pinion 30s have a crush sleeve and that the sleeve can get "crushed" if the pinion gets bumped. I'm guessing that somewhere along the way (perhaps before I even owned the Jeep), the pinion got bumped and opened up some slack. I'm not getting any whining or grinding sound so I assume the gears are okay (for now, but wouldn't be long term). Any chance I can just zap the pinion nut on tighter to take up the slack or am I forced to get a new crush sleeve? I only need this axle to hold out over summer while I finish up the HP 30 and get the Dana 44.

Hello everyone, I've decided it's time to sell my XJ. I don't drive it much anymore and I'd rather see it go to someone from the forum. Pix and details can be found on the April COTM and it's also listed in the "For Sale" section in the Four Corners region. Any more info wanted, just p.m. me.

I know you're sayin that your case is due to lack of use.... I know my baby has rubbed me the wrong way pretty good more than once... and at one point I came very close to sellin' her.
But when it came right down to it... for some unknown reason in the universe, I just couldn't bring myself to actually do it... I think partly because I knew that even though she had been a grouch, that I'd regret it the instant it was gone...
I think if I had to let mine go... I'd do the same, wanting it to go to a good home with someone on here that would appreciate it for what it is.

Good luck with the sale.
I guess sometimes you just have to let go and move on. Please stick around and visit here if you can. Once part of the clan always part of the clan.
Hahaha! No, Bugout, if that were the case I would have to say I failed. The money and time and energy I've put into it are but a foregone conclusion now. I just don't have the time and energy to devote to it as I used to and you can rest assured I will frequent this haunt.
I have to be honest and admit that I have had to do that myself. Currently trying to reduce all my projects down to one or two for the same reasons. Finding that I am spread out too thin and not getting anything at all completed or have any time to just enjoy life.
