Thoughts or concerns?

I find it pretty interesting honestly, after all this time of prohibition. I personally dont smoke marijuana, cant stand smoke, but I really dont see any issues with it considering how many people do it already, so long as its regulated.

 

Big difference between "legalized" and "decriminalized," I suspect it was the latter.

However, it's only taken us the best part of 100 years to finally learn the lesson of Prohibition - it don't work. Why we keep doing it, I don't know.

 

I feel it was voted in by a bunch of stoners that didn't think it through or were too lazy to read. I don't think they really got past legalized pot before they were already hitting the vote button. They really set themselves up for failure on this one.

One question anyone ever heard of a MUI.

 

If it is for medical use, I'm all for it. But unfortunately it is still against federal law. As for MUI, driving under the influence. Is just that. Whether it is alcohol, illegal drugs, or legal prescription drugs. And a danger to everyone.

 

I doubt we'll see an increase in use because it is already so easy to get. So I doubt we'll see any increase in danger or negative impacts from it being legalized. I do however see an opportunity for the state to make lots of money to put towards education, housing, and public transportation. I'm not a big user, but I only see dollar signs and positive impacts from the passing of 502!

 

.... Should also free up more grant funds the DNR can use to build more jeep trails !! Maybe now they'll bring back Ritter pit!

 

For me it's more about freeing up the legal system than it is being able to smoke pot "legally". Personally I will continue to smoke marijuana regardless of it's legal status (as will most of America). Jails, prisons, courts, police etc etc are overrun with people who have marijuana related charges. In fact, here in GA the jails and prisons are so over crowded with marijuana related offences, I am now seeing a trend where (non-violent) sex offenders are given 20 years probation and never even set foot in a prison. NOW WTF?! You mean to tell me you will arrest Person X for marijuana posession, but let the sex offenders walk free?

Again, not to mention the countless man hours and millions (if not billions) of dollars spent keeping marijuana illegal, when there could be huge profits and jobs created.

Legalizing marijuana in the US would also keep Mexican drug cartel at bay, again freeing up money and man hours.

Unfortunately, it will probably never happen.

I dont smoke..But I did write a huge essay about legalizing Marijuana in my junior english class in college. Wish I could still find it.

 

This topic gets me very heated, however seeing as this is not my "Wheeling Neighborhood" I'm going to keep anything further to myself.

 

the new law only means one can be caught with up to one ounce of weed.
you still cannot smoke it out in public, or drive while impaired.

you just can not be charged under state law for possession.
just remember, you can still be federally charged.

I don't think the Feds will be called in to charge a pot smoker! If that's the case then were going backwards even more......I loved marijuana in "High" school. Then reality hit and I had too get a job and get responsible. But now that I'm responsible and have held a job for 15yrs I may partake in this new personal freedom being handed back. Anyway's I believe in self regulation not other men telling me what is and is not good for myself!!!!!! I'll be the judge of that.

 

I moved and reopened this thread. Since it is technically legal in WA now discussion can be allowed. I am going to allow folks in that region to dicuss the topic. I feel it's an important issue for those who live in WA. Please keep things clean and do not get out of hand or we will remove it for good.
