You can remove them from the base. (for 97-01 hvac + switches) you just have unwrap the wires that go through and around the sides of it from the old bulb in order to pull it out, then spool in your baseless t5 bulb into the original base you took the old small bulb out of. then reinstall. remember the leds only have the one polarity, so if it doesnt work the 1st try, turn the bulb around. then reinstall into the hvac. this is also how you change the bulbs in the wiper and foglight switches. i did it this way and its still working fine after like 4+ months.

alright guys so i bought a set of blue leds for my dash and etc. the gear selector and 4wd lights are a light blue but my dash is purple.. anyone that got blue lights have this problem?

as of now they dont match at all and look quite bad. Receipt even says they're blue so I don't believe they sent me purple ones.

is it the film on the back of the gauges? the original bulbs have a blue cover and come out green so is that why my blues are becoming purple?

Sounds like you got "blue" bulbs from 2 different companies/manufacturers. they're color tints are probably different. And they may also be different lumen (brightness).

Thats the thing I got them all from superbrightleds

The gear selector and 4wd shifter turned out nice using these

http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...edge-base/206/

But the gauge went purple using these.. They couldn't have sent me purple ones since they don't even offer them in purple.

well I don't see why you're complaining since your Jeep is probably purple anyway. Hahaha

In all seriousness though, I have the exact same bulbs and my dash is a nice blue, but I have a pre-97 dash, so maybe it makes a difference if you have the newer style dash?

Yeah but it doesn't match anything else and just doesn't look good. I think I'm going to just do red all around. You have the exact same bulbs though? I feel like my dash is much dimmer then the gear selector

Has anyone done these for exterior lights yet? I noticed that autolumination offers them and possibly superbrightleds also. Does someone have pics?

Take off the center bezel around the radio, grab from the bottom and yank up. Four screws hidden behind there for the gauge cluster surround. Then there's two or three screws on the kick plate under the steering wheel down by your shin. Pull this towards your head to release the clips. Then there's a metal kick late under that with two or three screws. After you take those out it will swing down, pull it towards you a set it aside. Get a light a look by the pull out headlight switch. Under the dash there's a small button you must press to release it. Try looking for something that says BUS that's how I find mine. Press it and wiggle the headlight stock around until it comes out. Release the grommet type thing around the steering wheel and pull the gauge cluster surround up and out. The gauge is then held in by four screws and it simply pulls right out.

im ordering up red leds again later this week. Blues never came out good so I'm scrapping that idea. if anyones interested these are the lights im getting

2x for the gear selector (auto only) and 4wd - http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...-base/206/922/

5x dome/map lights may be less for pre 96 xj's just pop off the cover and see what you have - http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...toon/244/1163/

2x front driver and passenger footwell lights, like i said maybe different for pre 96 im working with a 98 classic here - http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...ed-tower/9/70/

5x gauge cluster, double check for pre 96 but 97-01 are t5 or 5mm - http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...l-led/221/995/

2x the same ones as above but get these in t4 or 4mm. these are for the hvac, get the high powered ones so they fill the hvac better - http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...-led/221/1000/

2x (3x if you have factory fog lights) these are for the switches for defroster, wiper and fogs. pretty much those above but not as powerful, definitely not needed for two little switches - http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...l-led/220/983/

my total came out to $75, that's not including shipping as well. I'll be installing these later in the week so stick around and you'll see them.

So I have a 92, I have to double check to make sure the gauge cluster ones will work, but my footwell doesn't light up now. Does that mean there's no light there now? Would wiring one up be easy? And I have an auto 4wd, so the first link will work right? Then I also have to see if I need that amount for the second link too.

Poke your head under and look for a bulb, it's by the hood release, take the bulb out if there is and check if it looks the same as the one I posted. If theres no bulb and it doesn't look like a bulb will go anywhere then, yeah you don't have footwell lighting
