Just plain white light but some sort of regular bulb so it shines 360 degrees and no hot spots!

Big difference since i've never had light on the 4wd shifter, looking good now!

Mine's a 1990 XJ and that's the size of the shifter bulbs. Only need 2...

I thought someone mentioned that the dash/gauge lights were also 194's?

It bugs when people write it that way! Pre-96 means 95 and older. Post-97 means 98 and newer. So what do model years 96 & 97 use?

Well before i heard about the bulbs.... i did this when i lost my cluster lights... 10 led lights wired to the cig lighter.... so i have 3 under each part of the dash.... 2 for the gauge cluster.... and one in each shifter.... $20 from AZ. I think it looks fine

2 weeks later I finally got around to installing the LEDs. I got a 1990 Cherokee Laredo and used 194s. Probably too many because my blinkers and high beam indicators aren't working :/

All but two were the right way. Putting the speedometer cable back on was fun. Not having those indicators is even more fun.
