Make sure you watch you engine temp on the beach, mine over heats if in crusing bout 10mph or lets on the beach im 4 high. I've learned to put it in 4 low and it does fine. I go down to carolina beach here in NC, outside of wilmington. Also don't get a mud tire for the sand, you want to float across the top and not dig it, i'm was running nitto terra grapplers and they did great. I haven't been out with my new tires.

The only mod I have on my 2000 XJ that I use on the beach are tow hooks and a front receiver hitch for my cooler rack. Best advise is to make sure you air down your tires. I've seen plenty of people in NJ stuck on the beach because they didn't air down first. I was on the beach near Hatteras NC and it was similar to what we have here. There are a couple of companies that sell screw on deflators that will take the tires down to a preset pressure within a few pounds. I have a set and they work great.
