My 89 Jeep has had intermittent no start problems I saw that the camshaft sensor could be the problem. When I checked the distributor I found a small puddle of oil where the sensor wires enter. I think it was splashing around and goofing up the sensor since it worked ok when i cleaned out the oil. What would cause oil to be in the distributor?
Thanks
Thanks

If it is verified to be that low with fresh oil you have a bad oil pump, bad main bearings or bad cam bearings or a combo of all 3.
Start by verifying the gauge, if there is no knocking it is less likely to be bearings and most likely to be oil pump.
Edit: really sounds more like a bad gauge to me though

As far as the intermmitent no start ,if your xj is an automatic it could be the neutral safety switch as well. If the motor not cranking is what you mean by no start next time it happens move the gear selector back and forth a few times or try to start in neutral if it starts after its the nss that needs rebuilt.

My motor is a hybrid as in 258 block and 87 4.0 head and injection system. I now have a crack in the head. So my question is do I machine another 4.0 head and cam it or get another block and stroke it?

That's how I feel also. I'm sure it will pass the Sniffer I'm just worried about the visual, Cali has the harshest smog ***** on the planet lol.
But since it is TECHNICALLY a better and more efficient design I'm not sure if they would fail more or even notice it since its oem

I had the pacesetter header for my rx7 before and my brother had one for his 240sx and honestly the quality was honestly garbage. I truly wouldn't recommend them. They use really thin wall tubing and the welds were horrible we had to grind the inside of each primary down because the welds choked down the tube so bad.
As far as the xj header goes I don't have an experience with them but The quality of the headers I did recieve made them lose my business for future purchases.
