I need a new muffler and while I'm at it I might just replace the whole exhaust system, I'm looking at the dynomax Turbo cat back. Would this improve my mpg? I need to replace it and was wondering what to get to increase gas mileage. Thanks

Are there any differences between the 98 I6 exhaust manifold and the 99?
Got a crack in my 99 and the 98 is on way to wreckers. I could pull that one off and swap them if they are the same. If not I'll have to get a new one but I don't want to pull the 98's if it's not.

Most likely not. Usually you don't see MPG gains from a better flowing exhaust, unless yours was clogged to being with. A bit more power is more likely.

the 99 exhaust posts on the head are a bit smaller, but the 98 manifold will bolt right up and work without issues.

hi everyone. i've been lurking for a while getting knowledge from all of you. i'm relatively new to jeep. i inherited a 1988 cherokee with the 4.0 inline 6 last year. although i haven't had any bad overheating problems, the electric fan is shot and although the ac also doesn't work (my late brother disabled it) i need to replace the fan. i have looked at lots of threads and there are as many opinions as there are fans. i would like to go with a new one and would like to see what all you recommend. it's getting time to cut firewood and that means slow going in the woods and you all know that at idle it can get hot. thanks for the help! besides i love my jeep dare i say even more than my 85 yota!

If the fan really is dead, honestly the best solution is to just grab one out of another cherokee in your local junkyard. The stock e-fan is more than sufficient to provide the extra cooling needed at idle/higher temps, and you're guaranteed it'll fit. If you grab one out of a 97-01 cheorkee, it's an improved design with more blades (and more airflow).
