XJ Ask the Question Thread
quick question while doing parts searches online. So i'm currently in need of a new driver window track and motor for my 2000 2door power windows, i've got the part number (the new one as the original part number was dicontinued, 55155013AK) and my father and I have been scouring the internet on mopar overstock websites of various names. After he tried to purchase one, it came back with a message stating that the part was discontinued and that he would not be charged for the transaction. He doesn't want to try any other websites for fear of handing out his CC number but I still need to continue looking for the part at a reasonable price. Does anyone know a website that clearly states whether or not it is in stock even if discontinued? So far, nothing else has shown up for either of us other than these websites that are all more or less the same site reskinned
Trying to take my transmission pan of to change the filter but the dip stick tube won't allow me to take it all the way off. Is the tube just supposed to slide apart? Because there is a seam part way up but it won't budge. I've tried to get to the bracket that holds the tube to the engine, but it's in such a tight spot I have no tools to get leverage. Any tips?
Hey so I want to use a factory fog light switch for my grill lights. Two questions:
I have a blank spot on my panel that looks ready for a switch. Do I just cut the blank part out and the switch just locks in?
As far as the wiring, it looks like the switch has a spot in the back for an electrical connector. Where can I get the connector with a pig tail? Junk yard is last option for me. I don't have one near by or the time to go.

Check the flexplate bolts. That should be done just because......
Could be a lifter tick. Try this. When you start it and hear the tick, shut the engine off for 10 seconds. Tick still there?
What brand oil filter are you using?

whats the stock electric fan size on a 96? any suggestions on a good fairly cheap replacement? i need to delete my engine fan its just not cutting the mustard.
I can't figure out how to start a new thread so I'll just ask here. Why would my driveshaft be hitting the under carriage of my xj looks like the tc is sitting a little sideways. Could the tranny mount be on backwards and if so would that push it off to one side like it is?

apply some "noggin pokin".
I checked all the motor mounts and everything and they all seemed fine I pulled the cross member off last night and it didn't go on smoothly I had to push it over towards the passenger side to get the holes to line back up.. That's what makes my think maybe the tranny mount is in backwards does anyone have a good picture of the mount installed? And of course when I test drive it it didn't make any noise at all but I never went over 25mph.

well it doesnt over heat it just gets too hot for my liking, and because i dont have an actual temp gauge (i just have a light that comes on when it gets hot) im thinking the clutch in the engine fan is shot, its really loose. i can spin it by hand when the motor is off, i dont like the engine fan anyways so i was just going to take it off and replace it with an electric fan.

Newb question here...
What is the best technique to re-install a transmission properly? I pulled the AX-5 on my '93 2.5L the other day (first time I have ever pulled a tranny btw) and yesterday when I was trying to hook it all back up I was having trouble properly aligning all the bellhousing bolt holes. The input shaft seemed to be lined up/inserted, yet however I tried to wiggle or move the transmission it refused to align properly. Is there a "mechanic's trick" for this?

The easy way is to use a transmission jack, which keeps the trans on the same place as the engine for easy installation. Personally, the way I've always done it is with a lot of cuts and cursing.

It is supposed to work for transmissions. It worked fine to drop the tranny.
Edit: Well, I managed to get the tranny back in. Just had to wiggle it like a madman and that eventually did it. Clown's method of "cuts and cursing" was also present.
