Replace the hoses with quality stuff for cheap assurance. Besides, if they're stock or old enough, they're gonna FUBAR when you go to remove them anyway from the rad.

I'd get a 2 row unit. Way back I bought an all metal one from Radiator Barn for a great price, but I think they got bought out a while back. It's been great. The swap took no time at all on my 91. Super easy to get to and remove.

 

I just did mine on my 2000, not bad at all just remember the quick disconnect tool for the line waaay at the bottom of the rad on the drivers side. I bought a "stock" replacement radiator for mine as I was not in the position to afford a better one. And make sure you do the good hoses and check your water pump out while you have everything out, alot easier to replace lol same with t stat, t Stat housing... etc etc

 

The one in there looks sooo new...no corrosion, hardly any of the fins looks bent, etc. Hose clamps are rusty, might need those. It really looks like it just got replaced recently and the temp is always down around 190-195F. I'm almost thinking it was replaced recently but it has a defect. There's a slight leak where one of the tubes goes into the side. Never would have noticed except it whistles after I turn it off every now and then and there's a slight misting of coolant on the hood when you open it.

The 90 degree bend that goes to the heater is very rusty definitely needs to be replaced so I can assume the water pump does then. Is 190/195 the stock T-stat temp?

Where do I get the quick disconnect tool or would Autozone rent it?

 

The xj I recently purchased is held together by bondo and rust, and I am currently working on remedying the problem. I was attempting to remove the wheel cylinder to replace a torn bleeder valve. It took a sizable chunk (3"x4") out of the backing plate. I can't find a new one online, it seems they don't exist. Does anyone have experience with this issue? Can I just weld it back in place? and does anyone have a swimming pool full of penetrating oil that I can park my jeep in so I can get the rust out.

Sooo I'm literally obsessed with the front ends of the old (60s'-80's) jeep wagoneers, chrokees and the J series pickups. I was wondering if anyone has ever successfully put the front end (grill and headlight etc.) of the older jeeps onto a cherokee. That would be mazeballs!

You can go to vatozone and get it, it's the same disconnect tool that they use for the a/c lines. Can't remember the size but I bought both just in case, they are not expensive at all and good to have, not sure on the stock t Stat temp but mine has always ran between 195 and 210..... i also didn't do the heater core, that's bypassed and I live in az so screw it I have a blanket if I need it that bad lol but I replaced everything "stock" for the cooling system for a little under 200$. Worth it while you got it apart is what I was taught... makes it way easier.

Here it goes. I have a shot np242, i found another from a friend for a good deal. The problem is it has plugs in different locations. Mine has a pkug next to the speedo plug, his doesnt, but they are both np242's. I drive a 96 cherokee country.

Mine has the white speedo plug, his has the black speedo plug and is shot top down, but it doesnt have the plug next to it.

Im not exactly sure.. is there a specific vehicle range id need from? I thought they were the same from 88-96? I know about the spline change from 21 to 23 in the early 90s, but not much more then that. I just need to get to work.. lol
