Disregard my last. I had a brain fart and forgot selec-trac vs command-trac. Yes, I have part time 4wd.

Okay so one more (possibly) dumb question. The upper part of my fan shroud is missing, literally just the part that covers the top of the fan. It looks like someone cut it off. Is there a way I can replace that without putting on a whole new shroud?

not really. A new shroud is like 20 bucks or something on eBay or 3 bucks at a junkyard.

U can fashion a cover with a sheet aluminum if u are adept.

There's no good reason to run Part-Time 4WD in light snow. You actually lose traction by forcing the axles to turn at the same speed all the time--everytime you go around a corner you will force something to break free and spin. You should only use it when you are in loose terrain that will adapt to the wheels, or when you get stuck and need to pull out.

I did a transmission swap on my 1996 jeep cherokee. The one I put in has an 8 point wiring harness compared to the old one that has a 6 point wiring harness. Could I solder the wires together if so does anybody have a diagram of which wires I should connect or do I need to purchase a new wiring harness for my transmission

Which transmission did you swap in?

I must agree with you here. I only recommend using Part Time 4WD when it's needed. It's just too easy to move the handle back to 2WD, I don't see a reason not to

Recently I replaced both washer pumps in my 97. Now when I hit the wash on either the front or rear both sets of wipers cycle but neither sprays. I can't seem to find a good diagram of how they are wired. Any ideas?

I am on to my 5th Cherokee now and my newest is lacking what my previous one had... a raised back.

I had a 1997 Cherokee Limited (or at least it had a limited sticker on it - it had been repainted, so I'm not sure if the previous owner just threw it on there or what). It had a towing package (hitch and I've been calling it an "add-a-leaf", but I wasn't sure the proper name). I ended up in a fender bender and crunched the front end, so of course I picked up a new one... a 1999 Sport. The new one is in much better condition, but it doesn't sit as nicely as the 1997... it has the ***-sag that most Cherokees seem to have, especially if you have 400lbs in the trunk. I am tempted to take the leafs off my 1997 and put them on the 1999, but I may just leave them and buy new to save myself the hassle.

So the question is, what exactly am I looking for in order to achieve that nice raised back stance without doing a lift? I use the Jeep for commuting mostly, so I don't need another lifted Jeep. The 1999 does not come with a trailer hitch, so I will also be adding one of those. No plans to tow anything heavy like a boat, but I would use it to tow a small trailer for something larger than I could fit inside her.

Thanks for your help!

Happy New Year.

Joe

Air shocks (or new shocks all together) might help unless you have the typical cherokee sag then new leafs or AAL's are pretty much your option.

You could replace your factory shackles with a 1 inch lift shackle. That could do the trick. Personally, I would opt for new HD leaf springs that will raise the back up more over your tired leafs.

New heavy-duty springs will give you what you're looking for. They're rated as "stock height", but, being stiffer (giggity), they sit higher when unloaded. Companies like Crown make these but you can probably pick some up at NAPA, etc. old Man Emu is also a nice option if you want a good ride.
