How are rear auto lockers when making tight turns such as U-turns on a road? Don't want to get rid of the 242 full-time capability but don't want to have a huge turn radius

Autolockers aren't very good with an NP242. They're always locked until you let off the throttle. Totally pointless to use Full Time mode then. Gear-based limited slip would be more useful

I would agree to this if you're talking about putting an auto-locker in the front. If the locker is going in the rear, then it won't necessarily effect the slip-coupling action of the NP242 as it is mainly designed so that you don't bind up the front end while turning in 4wd mode.

That's why I'm looking at rear lockers and not front

I never said anythig about the front. The NP242 is a gear differential system. The entire point is to have differential action to all four wheels for best tire life and road manners, to reduce the possibility of over/understeer, and slippage on certain types of terrain. That's what Full Time/All Wheel Drive is. Installing an auto locker defeats this design goal by restricting the behaviour of one axle. Under power the locked rear axle can kick out going around corners. To get around it you need to just coast through so the auto locker lets go... Which means you might as well put it in 2WD or just change out to an NP231.

My two cents.

Anyone know the best place to find an open carrier for the Chrysler 8.25 29 spline rear axle for cheap?

My Jeep came with the Trac Lok lsd on the rear and I don't think I want to keep it after reading up on lsd and off roading. The two don't seem to mix well. I just want to get an open carrier and install a locker.

Prices for a new one are ridiculous. I can get a selectable locker for just a little more than a new open carrier...

My wife's 88 had a limited slip in the rear with selectrac.

Anyone know the nut size for the exhaust manifold studs/bolts? I somehow lost both of them.
Also, the nut size for the stud on the passenger side of the engine that holds on the ground for the cable running to the distributor.

No idea how all these have gone missing, I put them all in organizers.

For the bolts that hold the exhaust manifold on the head or for the bolts that connects the downpipe to the header?
