Default 2001 cherokee sport

So I am looking to buy a 2001 Cherokee sport. One problem it has a check engine light and the guy at the dealership says its either the gas cap or small crack in a tube or hose somewhere under the hood. He says that it doesnt effect the jeep at all. Any idea what it could be and if it really doesnt effect the deiving..?? Thanks

pull the code.....I don't trust that seller already....
Either way, it's a 2001 with the notorious 0331 head and it is prone to a crack between cylinders 3 and 4. Stay away from 2000-2001.

Do you know the check engine code they scanned at the dealership? It sounds like an evaporative emissions system leak. This would only effect emissions and could very likely just be the gas cap not sealing causing a leak. It could be difficult getting the jeep registered in your area if the check engine light is on.

Straightsix thats what he said it was when he pulled the code. On the check in my area. I am in KS and they don't do emmission checks unless you buy it out of state..

Agreed with those two. EVAP leaks aren't hard to fix, so fixing a vehicle with an evap problem isn't exactly an issue.

The issue is that the dealership is too freaking lazy to fix such a simple problem as a bad gas cap or unplugged vacuum line on a year with known capacity for serious issues that basically mean you need a new engine. It sounds like they got a busted ****ty trade-in and and need to flip it fast.

Avoid like the freakin' plague. Don't even call them back. They're trying to rip you off.

My computer is being a dick. Anyone have a link to a good thread on the timing chain on the 4.0? I am trying to find some info on how much slack it needs and all that jazz.

Hold up!!! They a stealership for a reason. Tell them to bring their scan tool and show you the code. They always say its evap related. They want a sale. That's it. They show you or you walk. Done.

Okay, my '96 4.0L has no spark(I do have fuel, and crank).
It did before I replaced the cylinder head, so I assume either I broke something, or forgot to connect something. I checked the distributor and all the wires connected, and everything seems to be fine. Assuming it isn't the CPS, or the distributor, what else could it be?

Test the CPS and quit guessing.

I'm going to, but I don't understand how it worked perfectly fine, considering the car was just sitting, and now stopped working. I feel like I just missed something else during re-assembly.

Don't try to understand it. Test it.

AC condenser has a hole in it. What all would I need to fix it?
