I'm not a trans expert. Just wanted to get more info to help others try to diagnose the problem.

96 XJ. On three occasions I have noticed smoke when I brake. I'm pretty sure it's only when I brake at least. Doesn't smell like anything, and it's really thin smoke. White.

It seems to happen after longer trips (especially long trips with highway travel). I read somewhere about it possibly being dirt on the rotors?

Perhaps jack up one side of the jeep at a time and spin the wheel, see if the brake pads are catching. A slight drag may be normal, you should feel/hear any excessive dragging. Run your nail across the rotor to feel for grooves, also take a peak at the inner/outer brake pads to see how wore down they are.

Forgot to mention, got brand new pads and rotors installed a week or so ago. It was happening before as well. Any chance the drums could be causing a problem?

I thought I read it was coming from the front. Is it from the rear? When you look back after braking you see white smoke?

Well guys, i bought some ball joints and tierod ends off ebay. They sold over 200 of them for cherokee owners, so im guessing some of you guys are running on them. I understand they probably aren't the greatest, but they do come with 1 year warranty, so the question is, how are they? I need them just to last a year, cause money is tight right know, and couldnt afford to pay my local auto store 30 bucks per ball joint, and 20 per tie rod ends.

Ball Joints Tie Rod Ends Steering Suspension Kit | eBay
There are indeed quite a few buyers and the seller has good feedback. I googled the brand and other than a lot of ebay ads, I found one page talking about several ball joints recalled by the manufacturer. Your ball joint part #'s were not on the list, however I'm not necessarily saying I would recommend them. Just be weary of potentially inferior ebay parts, if you buy them and they seem solid, give them a try.

They can be fun Take your time with it, try to do a little more research on the company before ordering them would be my suggestion. If you look up advance auto (if you have one local) coupons online I see 30%+ codes all the time and you can pick it up at the store. I have yet to replace my ball joints however I have had pretty good luck with moog u-joints, hubs, tie rod, track bar...

Drain and fill is just fine. The "filter" is just a screen anyway. Your issue is with the electronic controls or the solenoids.

Went to start it up after it being turned off for about 10 minutes (unloading groceries after trip) and it started idling VERY rough. Almost bouncing i could say lol definitely coming from the front end. not a lot of response when i gave it some gas, but after i started moving a good bit everything was fine. Drove it to jimmy johns and there were no other problems. Ill be checking it tomorrow morning to see if the problem persists.

Any ideas? No CEL, engine not overheated, oil pressure gauge at 80 (like it always is). thought i smelled something burning but it was only for a few seconds then the smell went away.

Thank you for any input!

EDIT: 2000 sport with 125,500 miles

Oil pressure is 80psi at warm idle? What viscosity oil do you run? A lot of the time rough idling can be caused by a dirty IAC, idle air control valve, which is mounted to the throttle body. Is this the first time it has done this?

oil pressure is constantly at 80. had it checked out by my mechanic and there were no problems with it. not sure about oil but i just had it replace 400 miles ago. I was thinking it might be the IAC, but it only just started up tonight. when it happened it was like the third time i started it today after going shopping at two other stores.

EDIT: Maybe a heat soak problem?

Simple question. I have an 01 Cherokee sport. but I do not have the JEEP emblem on the grill. I noticed browsing here that some other 01 jeeps dont either. did the factory not put them on in this year?, or has mine been taken off? also if they just didnt come with them will the letters from another Xj work on mine? I know a lot of people debadge there stuff. personally I like em on.

It could very well be and in fact I just helped my friend fix his 98 that has the same problem. The insulation helped pretty darn good! He used zip ties to secure the reflective insulation to the injectors.
