XJ Ask the Question Thread
I have thoroughly researched the procedure of getting rid of the coolant pressure bottle by converting to the post-91 open coolant system with the radiator with the cap and a non-pressurized coolant overflow bottle.
But something in particular has driven me to every XJ forum in the universe. Everywhere I've looked does either a very poor job of including the instructions for wiring the electric fan to a post-91 thermostat housing (as I've chosen to do), or including instructions that an electrician would find decipherable but a do-it-yourselfer like myself finds almost completely impossible to understand.
If ANYONE can give me a much better idea of how I need to wire in the post-91 on-thermostat-housing fan switch to make it run at a certain engine temperature (like my current on-radiator fan switch/temperature sensor does), it is here at cherokee forum, and I will be very much in your debt. Every other site is crystal clear on how to perform everything in the coolant system conversion EXCEPT this electrical fan wiring portion, at which point they appear to believe every reader is a seasoned automotive electrician who understands the vague, bare-bones descriptions they give (or at least knows not only WHERE but WHAT all relays and grounds and terminals are in the 90 XJ 4.0 L6).
If you think you can help...great! But please spoon-feed any electrical terms like "ground" and "relays" and "terminals" in a way I can understand them and do by myself what I think will end up being a simple wiring job. (In my Physics 2 class back in college, the electrical circuit portion of the class only covered capacitors, inductors, and resistors. V = IR is a great piece of knowledge, but it won't help cool down your engine at 220*).

Hey just wondering if getting a average of 480kms per 90L tank is norm on a 5.2 V8. Not that I would trade my jeep for any other suv, however from what I hear other equivilants aren't so gas hungry. For all u Americans 90L=24gallons and 480kms=300miles. Just now there are a lot of things that can effect engine performance and wondering if anything is going on...

LAREDO LARRY, I am right there with U. I want to use an E fan on my XJ but need the proper wiring lay out and what fan to get from the bone yard. My buddy with a Dodge Dakota just did this to his . It was a kit made for his truck, a Viper fan and some other Mopar goodies .

You have a vacuum leak. Try to track down which rubber hose it is coming from. Once you get close you can use propane or carb cleaner to track down the exact location and replace the broken hose. If it really is as loud as you are indicating though, you should have no problem finding the break in the line.
does anyone know if the HO 2.5l oil fill cap is the same as the Renix 2.5l?
napa only carries the HO 4.o oil cap and thats not really helping me too much. and i live in Hawaii, napas about the only choice

Only two months ago I replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I also rebuilt the head. It was starting and running great but now when it's cold it has to crank for 30 seconds to start. It seems to catch and then stalls. The next time I crank it, it fires up and runs great after that.
What can possibly cause this hard starting?

That being said, There are two styles - a screw style, and a 2-prong style like the one you need.
Any cap 1984-1990 will fit, and any cap 1994 1/2-1996 should fit.
1991-1994 1/2 have 2 styles (2-prong and screw style).
Bottom line, if it's the 2-prong style it should fit.
My '98 XJ Classic will stall out when I take a left turn a little fast and have 1/4 tank or less of gas. Does anyone else have this problem and what can I do to prevent it other than the obvious keeping more than 1/4 tank of gas?

I was driving in the snow and I punched it a couple times then when I went to punch it again there was nothing. Everything was still on and runnin but the brakes locked up. It didn't work in reverse or drive. There was also a really bad smell like burning oil but a lot worse. What do you think went wrong?
