Fill the reservoir and run it. It will pull a lot of fluid down so you will have to top it off again. Then just turn the wheel lock to lock till power steering is back.

How cold does it have to be to affect power steering fluid?

 

I've felt a difference in mine at like 20*. But i've been waiting for my pump to go out for over a year now.

 

Jeep felt like I lost my power steering for a second while turning a little while ago, and the Camaro has been whining in the cold weather when I turn. Never had trouble with either of them before winter, so I wasn't sure.

 

Yep, thats what mine felt like. Had me swerving back and forth in Walmart parking lot like an idiot for a few minutes.

 

Pretty cold. Have you ever changed your fluid? Worth it. That stuff wears out you know.

 

Mine usually gets renewed pretty often.. I've got a leak i've never bothered to fix. Keeps the steering components lubed up.

 

I bleed the steering system this way:

Jack the front of the Jeep up so both front tires are off the ground.

With the Jeep OFF and the reservoir full turn the wheel lock to lock until the bubbles stop (While keeping the reservoir full.)

Lower the Jeep, start the Jeep and turn the wheels lock to lock until the bubbles stop again.

Done.

That way you never have to deal with running the pump dry.

 

Camaro, it only has 5k miles on it, along with the drivetrain. I don't know how old it is in the Jeep. I figured it was weather-related due to the timing, and it made me curious about the fluid.

 

Is it normal for power steering to temporarily go out while paralell parking? I noticed in both my bros XJ and mine it was like crankin a rusty old pressure valve handle at near stopped speeds. Never had that problem with any other vehicle. Just wondering if its unique to XJs or is it something mine and his both happened to have in common

 

They are both messed up.

 

Do the RPM's jump up when you turn? Or does the engine bog down some? Ifthe wires on your pressure sensor on the PS are broken it'll bog down.. Ask me how i know
