98' xj 4.0 ax15 (3in lift, factory control arms only replaced leafs, coils, and shocks):
Quick question guys. I took the cherokee out the other day to play in the snow and occasionally Id get a thud from the front end. Now today (just got back from a cruise, little to no snow left on the roads) when I go to turn the steering wheel left or right I get the loud thud from the front end, I kind of feel it in the steering wheel and around the floor board. Its the loudest at low speeds, I suppose because I dont take as large of turns at higher speeds. Im thinking it could be upper or lower control arm bushings, tie rod ends, track bar (loose or worn bushings), or perhaps the motor mount(s)... They past vehicle inspection but who knows what good that is without removing them to check. I dont have the sway bar on so thats not the issue. Just getting ideas of what to check when I crawl under it tomorrow. Thanks guys

 

could it possibly be a u joint binding up?

 

Tighten all your front end bolts, Esp track bar

 

the reason i asked is because mine does that same stuff occasionally...only on left turns when going up a hill...

 

Good suggestion. The driver side front axle u-joint has some slight play and I have heard a similar noise offroad but while in 4x4.

Thanks for the reply, Il go over every bolt tomorrow. It could more than likely be a loose track bar since I did disconnect it on the axle end a few months back. I hope its the lower control arms because I have my eye on a set of 3-4.5in fixed control arms with new bushings. Say the control arm bushings were bad and I replaced them with the fixed arms and that solves the thump, would I run into trouble with alignment angles with stock upper control arms?

I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, had it abot a month and I have been good about checking things, fluids etc. It runs great, no overheating or issues. Tonight I took a look in the radiator overflow and there is a yellowish orange foam in there - almost like mousse consistency. I was surprised because the jeep has been great so far, and doesnt leak a drop of anything. Coolant appears to be empty - I had to put over a gallon of mix in there.

Whats my issue most likely?

I realize you think you have important things to say, but as a general rule, if it sounds like something a real honest to god mechanic wouldn't do, don't say it. We're not interested in jimmy-rigging things together. And like what was already said. Sit down, shut up, and listen to the people that have a clue what they're doing. (no I'm not saying that's me)

This kid probably doesn't have a real mechanic in his family or friends. Most of us had a dad, uncle, or years of trial and error. I'm not excusing the kid, just saying cut him just a little slack.... maybe someday he'll actually have something useful to say.

 

So I tired calling Jason at rough country through that number and got no answer. I also tried calling their regular number on the website and it says to call during normal hours. But they are open right now so I don't know what's that's about.

Would anyone happen to know Jasons extension? Thanks guys

Hello all my jeep friends!

I have come here today to talk about my misfire on the #3 cylinder of my I6. To start off i have done a tune up in the past 5 months. Plugs cap rotor fuel filter. The Misfire started yesterday after I filled up with gas (76 station in Oregon). I was driving in some heavy xmas shopping traffic after filling up and noticed an abnormal shake to car and shortly there after the check engine light came on. Took it to autozone got the code read and its a misfire in the #3. Im going out now to pull the plug but im not sure what else to trouble shoot.

Finally to my question. What else do i trouble shoot?
