All this talk of flushing cooling systems made realize it's never been done to mine. I should fix that soon, the coolant in my expansion tank does look a bit nasty... Hell it's brown!

I think the only difference between a Renix and a Chrysler is the control unit, as far as I'm concerned the cooling system is the same. And i'm sure you'll know the flush kit when you see it. I would assume it's near the Antifreeze

Yeah the crystals - errrr rust and silt - love to settle in the overflow tank.

my89xj I take it you're referring to the "closed" cooling system where the rad cap is effectively on the pressure bottle. As far as flushing, not much, just some more line to flush or replace. Finding the right cap I recall from some of cruiser54's posts can be a bit annoying. Burping the system of air I read also sucks, most people just scrounge up the parts from a newer XJ and replace the Renix system with a Chrysler "open" system instead of the original parts.

Think ill say eff it, replace my tstat as planned and them convert, I've been meaning too.

No, it's tubular, so some kind of steel.

I only asked because someone on another site (Not even a vehicle related site) asked me after i posted a photo of my engine.

I'm gonna replace the crushed pipe sometime, when i do I'm gonna try and check my manifold for cracks.

Yeah absolutely a POS. What surprised me is that some of the aftermarket ones are cast iron, too! Would've figured they'd all be steel with the fancy headers being stainless.

If you're going to go through the trouble of replacing the crush section with nice pipe I'd suggest just getting a new header anyway, especially if it's original. If it's not cracked now, it will be soon... might as well take care of everything in one shot.

I know the XJ police package has a high idle switch. Is the wiring harness in place, but not used, on a regular XJ? I would like to add a high idle switch for when I run the winch.

I don't understand this statement. Did the guy asking about flushing HOSES, or flushing the inside of the heater core?

Why do you flush hoses? Seems easier to just replace. But, you remove 2 hoses. One is firewall<--->thermostat. The other is firewall<--->water pump. You pour flush into the disconnected hoses?? It will just pour out of the other end of this disconnected hose. Why not use a pipe cleaner instead?
