Which would you hold onto ?
So - for health reasons - I am about to become the sole owner of two cars.
- a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport with about 130,000 miles which we bought new. (It has had the CEL on now for about the last 12 years - small evap leak which no one can find the cause of).
- a 2016 Subaru Forester XT with about 5700 miles which we bought new.
Friends say - get rid of the Jeep - too many emotional connections...
Putting emotions aside - which car would you get rid of ?
Edit : And I have ben told that I will be lucky if I can get 2,000 US for the Jeep.

Why not keep both? Full disclosure: .I own a 2017 Subaru Forester and a 1996 XJ, And I'm thinking hard about selling the XJ
What motivates the sale, in other words? What do you need in a vehicle?

Only you can evaluate that.
Which one is a classic which is increasing in value?
Running rust buckets are bringing that much. What kind of shape is it in? Post some pics?

I own a Subaru Outback and a WRX, and used to own a Forester XT. I like my Cherokee, but if I had to sell the Cherokee or one of the Subarus it would be no contest, the Cherokee would be gone in heartbeat.
Every year we still bring it to the shop for an oil change etc. Actually at one point we used it so little the battery went dead. That was the first time I realized how sophisticated batteries have become.
Last time when I picked up the Subaru from the shop, the mechanic said - "If I had this car I would sleep in it". It is a turbo and when you step on the gas it really moves, like a race horse.
The Jeep is the workhorse - and still - almost every week someone tells me - "That is a great car"
Compare that to the Volvo S60 I drove for 10+ years. Ya know what controlled most of the car ? The rear view mirror. It had a computer ! In 10+ years I think we had to replace every piece of that car... (including the mirror).

that jeep will still be running on all stock components in 20-30 more years. i don't ever see any 80s or early 90s subarus on the road. and cherokees are getting expensive to buy, even early worn out ones.
we have about 350k on our 99 and it still runs as a back up for now. its for sale but i know i will regret that as soon as it sells, just like that last time i sold our 95 Cherokee and both of our wranglers.

First, I am sorry for your loss.
Next, the market here in the US is different from Mexico. I guess it would also depend on where in Mexico you live.
Next, is there some reason you can't keep both? Not just for sentimental reasons, but it's always nice to have a spare.
I have my 1988 XJ and a 2001 Acura TL. Both are over 200K. While they both run great, stuff does happen so I can still get around when one is down for repair. Also, they are quite different driving. If I need to move some stuff (boxes, tools, small furniture, etc.), go for groceries or run errands, I use the Jeep. If I'm going out with friends, driving/pickup someone from the airport, or just because I need a change, I drive the Acura. Both are long paid for. Insurance is relatively cheap since they are older cars. Many people have suggested I ditch the Jeep but it's so cheap to keep. I know one day it will go, but not today.
