Still haven't had an opp to tackle the hatch switch, but I am running in to another issue w/ the interior lights. The headlight switch will dim the dash lights but it won't turn on the interior lights. Everything appears to be in tact?!?!?

Over the weekend, I managed to get to the j/y and found a switch panel w/ the R.Defrost/Fog Light switch, to occupy the open ended wires next to the headlight switch. Not that they are functional but maybe some day, I will at least have fog/driving lights. And of course, if for some reason, I have to replace the rear window, I could always upgrade to the defrost window.
