Wont Start !! New Starter

Exclamation Wont Start !! New Starter

My jeep wont start. Its a 97 cherokee 5 spd 4 cyl 2wd. I really have no clue what to try. One night i went to start it and it turned on for a second, i put it in reverse and it just cut off and wouldnt turn back on. I changeed the starter and now i have no idea what could be wrong. Battery is fine and charged. Please help !!

Are you getting fuel to the engine? Check and see if your lacking fuel or a spark once you have that figured out check the cheap stuff first fuel pump resistor distributor etc before jumping to a bad fuel pump or such as the problem.

it wont turn over. all the electrical components come on when i turn the key still though.

had this type of problem over the weekend. I would turn the key and nothing, not even a click, but all the lights turn on. What I would do is check your fuses in the fuse block under the hood. Then, see if you can jump the starter relay in a way that that it will start. I did this and told me that my starter was fine and no other issues under the hood. Next is to take apart the steering column covers off and and pull of the starter switch. When I did this, the actuator pin fell apart. Just to be sure I used a screwdriver and turned the ignition switch which started the Jeep so I knew that the actuator pin was the issue.
