I got a 89 Cherokee limited. It is still running hot lol the system holds pressure and no cracks in the block !!! Any ideas ????

The electric fan is OK, the fan clutch is OK, the shroud is OK.The belt is OK. These things are nutoriously hard to "Burp". You wanna hang it by the wench! You have a 4.0 w/expansion tank, no cap on the radiator?

Yeah. I took it over some extreme angles trying to burp it and didn't seam to help. Did have fun welling it for the first time thoe. Both the cooling fans are working well. I replaced the clutch on the engine driven fan as well.

The method for burping is to have the rear slightly higher than the front. Loosen the temp sender at the back of the head til coolant comes out. Do this on a COLD engine.

One question that nobody has asked yet is "How hot is it running?"

Just running hot but not boiling or making a scene, and has a shroud? Yea, how hot.

Did you check your timing? Yes, timing being off will cause overheating even if you replace everything.

With the eruption of Mt. S. Helena it was decreed that mere mortals on the 3 Rd rock from the sun shall now and forever be forbidden from having a brewskie in the garage and monkeying with their timing. I gather that a faulty knock sensor can tell the PCU to retard the timing. Don't know. Dad would drop a thermostat in a pan of water on the stove to see what it's doing. I would hope they test new ones. Maybe their candy thermometer was off.

It's not adjustable!!!! ECM handles it. We haven't even determined if it's running hot. OP just says "not cool enough".

It's running just under the red. I removed the guts of the thermostat to make it just a restrictor plate. If I get it to 2000 RPMS the temp really starts to climb. Anyone ever herd of the blocks getting partially clogged ?

Do you have the closed cooling system, the one with no cap on the radiator but a coolant bottle on the passenger side firewall?
If so, you need to bleed it according to a post up above.

Try this if you have that system. Replace the coolant bottle cap with one from a Volvo. Napa part number 703-1396.
