Default window tint

anyone here install their own window tint? I see they sell the precut kits on ebay for like 30 bucks. i think i should have no problem installing and not too concerned if it is perfect..

Just curious how do you do on the rear window if you have the defroster? don't want it to melt and if you have done yourself any pics and how you find it to do?

My buddy tried it on his Bronco II the other night and ended up busting his window. At least the shards stuck to the tint! I bet you'd be fine if you went carefully and had a helper. Good luck and tell us how it goes.

nothing looks worse than bad tint. and be careful of the tint. cheap tint turns purple in a year or a few.

i figure for 30 bucks can redo every few years and still be cheaper then getting done for over 200 bucks at a store.

Tint is a pain to work with. You have to be a very patient person. I did my ranger and will never do it again. Also as far as doing it every year or 2 the glue is a real pain to get off to. I would strongly suggest getting it done professionally...

OK you got me. He didn't break it doing the tint exactly. He did it reinstalling the window after tinting. I've never tinted, but he said he had to get the tint 1.5" down into the door so it doesn't peel over time. To accomplish this, he pulled the glass on his driver's side door. When he went to reinstall it, he used his freakin' power tools to tighten the bolts that secure the window to the guides and tightened a bolt too tightly and it popped the window. At least he used limo tint. You can't tell the window is busted (from the outside) even if you are only 10 feet from the rig. I hope he finds replacement glass soon enough though. It is pretty hard to see out of it at all.

rear defrosters take a little more work to get the air out. you have to be very patient, have a good squeegie, and use lots of soapy water to keep from scratching the film. also take the time to scrape glass between lines with a razor blade to get all the old crud off. it is just another job that requires tedious prep work for it to come out looking good

Dont wash windows with amonia base cleaners Windex. That is what turns the tint purple.

i talked to a professional place here, they told me the darkest they could go would be 30%, stock on my 01 is 20%. They also told me that to do just the front two windows (driver/passenger) would be 80 bucks to get done
