the cps is what caused my xj to stall
if it cranks but doesn't start when hot after a stall but does after it cools down, that would be cps.
if your ever in an intersection and it stalls and you cant get it started, a trick I found out is to unlplug cps, turn over the vehicle(it 100%wont start with it unconnected) then plug it back in and turn the key. mine would always start after that.

A bad coil will do the same. As well as a fuel pump.
Don't ever just ASSUME you know whats causing the issue and throw parts at it. Do the diagnosis first to confirm, then buy parts. Otherwise you run a good risk of wasting money.
From my experience a crank position sensor will just cause a no-start all of the sudden. They dont get "weak" and work intermittently.

There are plenty of things that will cause a hot-no-start.

I went out one day to drive it and it would just crank away. I looked at the wire, burned to a crisp!

Here's how it's supposed to be routed. OP click on the "pink link" in my signature and do the procedures outlined in posts #1, 2, 3, and 7.
I spend almost 1300 trying to fix a stalling issue , it was the crank sensor , I bought one at auto zone stalling issue still was present until I got a crank sensor used from another cherokee now works perfect !!!! check all cables going to the crank sensor , clean conectors with electronic cleaner if u do replace the crank make sure its the original if not ull be wasting money and time
