https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/au...-compass-36308. Wasn't too hard, just had to run the wires for power, temp sensor, etc.

Never been a big fan of auto-dims myself and we have several vehicles which have them. They don't seem to dim as much as the manual mirrors, and often, when you don't want the dim, (like city night driving) you cant go into the 'normal mode' to allow better visibility.

Our hummer mirror has a compass and temp built into it, I guess that's ok. Seems accurate. It would be nice to have the back-up cam built in too. So, if you like the auto-dim technology, yeah, the other features are kind of nice to have too.

I've seen plenty of auto dim mirrors that have an On/Off button for the dim feature, like in my Cummins. That's what I'll be looking for. As well as a compass, possibly temp if available, and backup camera. Not sure if any have all 4 features.

That would be a great feature to have...

I got either a Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon mirror (I forget which, they are the same) at the junkyard and you can easily turn off the auto-dim feature. It has a temp sensor and compass, but no backup camera.

I have that in my 2001 GC. It's a nice option with tinted windows.

I installed an Auto-Dimming mirror in my '01 XJ. If I was to do it again, I would not buy the one with the map lights. I already have the map lights from the overhead console. I need to find a better airflow spot for the temperature sending unit. Sitting & idling, the temperature will easily be an extra 40*F over the overhead console. For some reason, after about 2 years, the glue just gives up & it falls off the windshield. I'm on my 3rd re-glueing it to the windshield with a different product each time.
