does anyone know where to connect this green wire? it seems to me that everything works despite being disconnected ...

That does not look like anything factory. Look for anything that a previous owner might have added on.

From the size of that wire, I would guess something like a 12V supply to a trailer plug.

that I know has never had the trailer hitch.... I'll try to follow the cable....
