Your XJ already has the holes drilled in the front ends of the unibody framerails to mount a stock type set of tow hooks and brackets like the ones sold by Quadratec mentioned earlier.
Your XJ already has the holes drilled in the rear part of the unibody framerails for a receiver hitch, too. They are on each side of the gastank. You just need to get the hitch and the nut strips that go inside the frame to tighten the bolts into.

Phil, hehehe, I hear ya, brother. That is what is great about XJs. You can have the total base model but the factory drills all the holes and puts in all the wiring in every XJ for every option ever offered. My son took his 87 base model and basically made it a laredo from parts he robbed off of an 88 parts jeep. Unfortunately I don't have access to my XJ right now. I am out of town on travel for my work. Hopefully one of the other brothers reading your thread can snap a few pics and post them.

That vid takes care of the hitch. Here's a pic of the tow hook bracket that they have mentioned. It's the nice rusty piece here. You're XJ already has a "bumper" bracket which is just like the front part of tow hook bracket (triangle shaped portion). You take your front bumper completely off by removing your bumper bracket. Then remove the bumper bracket from the bumper and use the tow hook bracket instead. You can't see it fully in the picture, but the tow hook bracket extends back several more inches on the "frame" where you put a nice strong grade 8 bolt through a hole that's waiting for you.
