I get 9 city. I have had the engine in limp mode since I'm too lazy to replace an O2 sensor on my 98 sport. 4.5 inch lift, cold air intake, custom exhaust and headers, stock gearing for 33's.

Default MPG

RHD automatic (IN England). On Motorway, if I set the cruise control at 55 - 58mph I get roughly 20 - 23 mpg. That's with a 4" lift and bigger tyres. Around town its a terrible 14 - 18 mpg.

I am thinking it needs a new exhaust. It was sold to me as having a straight through exhaust, which sounds like a Sherman tank climbing a mountain at full throttle - LOUD!!! So even if it's ok, I will look at getting a stock exhaust put on just to quieten the thing down.

Also my LPG system is not working right, so I can't run her on that - which significantly helps with the fuel costs here in the UK. I filled the tank when I first got her and a 20 odd litre tank cost me £12.48 to fill!!! Not sure of the MPG on LPG - but with costs like that it wouldn't matter really.

Default Bone stock 98 with 200,000

She still runs pretty good. Town 13, HWY 22 (60mph or under), Interstate 70-75 18mpg. Best mileage on this dude is 60mph she will make over 20 all day, over 65 it drops 3-5mpg pretty quick.

I'm not sure yet, but seems to be about 14-15mpg the way we are using it right now: a lot of driving back and forth to the barn 1/4 mile away because we have been sick and it's been raining and very muddy.

I was hoping to be able to get ~20mpg on the highway. I think maybe it's running a bit rich and probably needs a new O2 sensor, but I've been too sick to work on it.

More and more, I am realizing the fuel quality is a huge issue with the 4.0.
(4.0 RENIX with 746 injectors, AW4, stock susp, 30x9.5 tires.)

I typically fill up at Chevron or a Spirit station and get around 15-17mpg.

A few weeks ago, I filled up at a 76 station and not only did the XJ run a LOT better, my mileage went to 18-21 mpg. I didn't believe it at first. The next time I filled up, I went to an Arco station and it ran poorly and got poor mileage. Back to the 76 for the latest tank and it is back to running well and getting good mpgs. It is a major difference. It is my DD, so the difference is quite obvious. The 21mpg came after a trip with solid HWY miles and I had to recheck the math because I didn't believe it at first.

Weird, Chevron is supposed to be excellent fuel. I've heard that about ARCO before, though

The Chevron isn't bad, but my Jeep likes 76 better. I'm going to do a tank at Shell next, to see how it goes.

those of you with OBDII should invest in a scangauge computer or equivelant. i got one and can see my instant MPG as well as my average and its helped me get my mpgs up into the 16-19 range mixed city/highway

i also used a lot of tricks that i learned here: http://ecomodder.com/forum/EM-hyperm...ecodriving.php
