Default What kind of fluid for my Dana 35

So im wanting to drain and refill my Dana 35 after my XJ went for a swim in a puddle and refused to get out.Axles got submerged. Ive already serviced my front Diff, but my rear seems like it may be a little more complex.

According to tech specs my rear diff MAY take 2 different kinds of fluid.

Theres the standard DANA 35 which takes GL-5 75-90 gear oil

Then theres also a Trailer towing package(im assuming factory)

It takes 75-140 gear oil

My Cherokee DOES have a UHAUL reciever and looks to have a transmission oil cooler up front.

Would these added features be cause for me to use the 75-140 or should I stick with the 75-90

Another thing im not sure matters, the diff in question has an Aussie ratcheting locker.

Does this require anything special in the way of fluids or additives?

Do you regularly or sometimes tow? If so, use the heavier gear oil. If not, the lighter.

Also, the Aussie isn't picky. Go with the factory fluid recommendations based on your needs.

The 75-140 isn't going to hurt if you want to be safe. It might cut down on your gas mileage by a fraction of a percent.

If you have a trac lok diff, youll need to add some friction modifier to the rear diff oil. FYI.

OP stated he has aussie locker in it..... also... x2 on the towing and non towing thing.... If you don't tow or do heavy pulling with it often the just use the lighter oil.
