IM running what the gauge is saying 20 psi at a 700 rpm idle and 40 psi at driving speed 50/60 mph. Is this normal. I just changed my oil with 10 30 rotela and a prolactor filter. 4.0 249500 miles

 

13psi at warm idle minimum and if I'm not mistaken 30-60 psi at speed.
If you are not sure if it is reading correctly rent a mechanical pressure gauge from any auto parts store and verify.

 

Ok good IM in normal. I was hoping I wasn't going to have to get a different engine. I do have lifter tick but that's normal for these from what I understand

 

It the sound of the 4.0.
I have had one that would only run at 5psi at warm idle and it ran like that for over 5 years. At least until I rolled it.
Your pressure is fine.

Mine has 4-5psi at idle & 20 at highway speeds and purrs like a kitten and runs like a scalded dog......YOU ARE GOOD!!!!

 

i believe the FSM says 17 psi min

 

So does mine feels like 0-60 in 4 seconds. Still has it's get up and go. Ok keep an eye on it make sure it doesn't go Down lower. If it does I may consider in new rods and main bearings. The weird thing about it is I needed a oil change. Had a Lil condensation in the oil and it was coal black. I added a flush additive that breaks up sludge. I changed the oil and the pressure went down from how it was before the condensation problem started. I was running 60 at highway speeds and 40 at warm idle. Maybe check my sending unit? It's plugged in all the way with no oil in it.

 

Sounds like you may have clogged up your oil pump pickup screen. This could be serious pull the pan ASAP!

 

He could also have clogged the orifice leading to the oil pressure sender, or loosened a clog that was impeding flow and creating high pressure, or just had a failed filter.

Regardless a change in pressure after a treatment like that I would take very seriously.

 

The main pressure drop happened when I was getting condensation in the oil. The pressure didn't change after or during treatment. I started it one morning and the pressure was at 40 at highway speeds. I checked oil after work and seen the white chunks.

No not at all. I don't have any more chunks ether. I drive 20 miles two days a week

 

mine 2 cherokees at idle have nearly 40 psi

 

Ya I figured out my oil problem...feeling pretty stupid bout it. Cherokees hold 5 quarts. Some reason I was thinking stupid and bought a gallon thinking that was enough and well it's not to fill the crank case and filter. Lol blonde moment
