Default What can I swap?

Hey guys, first post here, quick and dirty cause I gotta go.

Basically I needa replace my engine.

I have a 92 Cherokee 4.0 I6.

Im looking to replace it, what other years are compatible, I found a 90, and a 98 in my price range. Will they be able to swap in without much conversion?

Thanks, and glad to be official on Cherokee Forums !

90 would be a ton of work, different EFI set up. 98 should work pretty good but you may have to swap some accessory mounts.

Absolutely untrue. Use your intake and exhaust manifolds, distributor, flywheel/flexplate and CPS. All mounts work including accessory mounts. I've done this swap one way or the other three times now. If you have any questions, post them up.

Not sure what you mean. Use the intake exhaust gasket for the manifold you are gonna use.

Okay I got some time now haha.

So I was driving down the road and my girl noticed the Jeep was steaming, so i pulled over and just thought it was some excess oil spilled on the valve cover and it was burning off because I was running my Jeep hard that day. So i shrugged it off, then about 10 min later I noticed a hella temp spike and it went way past the highest ping. So I went to pull over and as i pulled over the engine died and i lost power steering and breaks.
Under the hood was steaming like crazy so I popped it and the radiator was cool and the intake/exhaust mani gasket was spewing.

So luckily my girls dad is a mechanic and happened to be on his way home, he came and looked at it on the side of the road and we noticed my heater hose from my radiator was shot, so the engine way over heated. Then we filled the radiator with water and started the Jeep but she wasn't running to good kept dieing if i let off the gas at all, it wouldn't idol. So I drove it a mile, pulled over let it cool. Then coasted down hill and through a town and pulled over again, this time it wouldn't start.

So i went to Baxters Auto today and picked up exhaust gasket, valve gasket, and head gasket and a Haynes guide, just wondering if there's any guides for replacement on this forum?
