If you have a renix your filter will point towards the passenger side regardless..unless further mods have been done iirc

If your H.O motor has been left alone then it should have the adapter assembly that makes the filter point towards the rear..in which case the shorter fatter filter would be necessary..

I had to do some research on all this last week because my filter was stuck to the housing and I was considering eliminating the housing.
