The Renix oil filter 87 to 90 will thread on to an HO oil filter stud. And, it will unthread a few miles down the road. An HO oil filter from 91 on will not thread on to a Renix oil filter stud.

A Renix style filter WILL thread onto an HO style oil filter adapter, but it will not stay on.

Here's where I'm confused. I thought the STP filter DID thread on, and according to the cross on the WIX site, it should have the standard 3/4-16 thread. Can the OP clarify?

so i could have an adapter on my oil filter housing? how would i check this, take it off and look at it and it should be a short rod? i recal it being a short rod and not a long one,

Both the HO and Renix have the threaded nipple on the oil filter adapter housing. One is metric, the other standard thread.

and looking up specs of the Renix filter which is a napa 1626 all specs are the same as the H.O.'s 1085 but the thread size so I have no clue what is going on here. even the 4.2L and all 2.5L's matched the 1085/1626 in respectable years except for the OLD 4.2L which uses a 1522 and is a smaller diameter filter with 13/16-16 threads

I think he may be trying to thread an HO filter on to a Renix stud. Or, he has NO oil filter adapter housing?

Return all the filters you've bought and go to Walmart. Purchase a 090 Mopar oil filter.

you will lose whats in the filter and near the housing. if its sat for a while this wont be much as most of the oil will have settled into the pan

If you have an HO motor, and the end of your filter points towards the passenger side then someone has eliminated the adapter assembly..then you have to find a smaller filter to use..google it..I think people have used toyota filters..only issues you may run into with an eliminated assembly setup is that your motor mount is pretty darn close to the filter..

If you have a renix your filter will point towards the passenger side regardless..unless further mods have been done iirc

If your H.O motor has been left alone then it should have the adapter assembly that makes the filter point towards the rear..in which case the shorter fatter filter would be necessary..

I had to do some research on all this last week because my filter was stuck to the housing and I was considering eliminating the housing.
