Exclamation Water in the cabin

So everybody knows the xj floors rust, but where is the water coming in? Most people fix the floors, but I'm curious who all has fixed the water leaks. So far I know that the water comes in from both the passenger side door windows and somewhere on the hatch. I've heard the rear quarter windows leak but I haven't seen any water from there yet. I haven't seen a post about this, so thanks in advance for any input.

While we're talking about rust (my floors are in very good condition, a few holes, nothing major) how bad of an idea is it to cut the metal on top of the "frame" to clean up the inside and paint it? Then I'd have it welded back up when I get my floor welded. Just for preventative maintenance, but I'd hate for my frame to rot out

My Cherokee's leak in passenger front came from the windshield at the top. My Wrangler's leak came from the blower motor mating surface.

My '00 XJ was also a windshield leak. Coming out just to the left, when sitting in the Jeep, of the passenger side visor.
No sure where it was coming in under the windshield though.
A remove and replace with new molding and gunk to care of that leak.
Still have one that is coming out on the passenger from the molding at the back of the cargo area.
Not sure where that is coming in from.

One of your best clues to the source of the water is to smell and taste it.

I had the usual wet passenger floorwell problem, but the water had a soapy taste.
Sure enough the rear window washer hose which runs right through there had been abraded enough to leak.

Thank you for all of the replies! I do not have a roof rack. My windshield molding is messed up but I've sprayed it down with a hose and no water comes in, I'm thinking maybe the seam under the hood, kinda by the firewall, is where some water may be coming in, but time will tell I guess
