Default Wagoneer axles

Ok so I was looking for axles to drop in my xj and I found a 83 grand wagoneer 4x4 locking hubs 6 lugs and a tow package. It looks like Dana 44s front and rear. Am I wrong?

Front is a Dana 44, rear is a AMC 20

Gearing could be anywhere from 3.07 to 4.10. With tow package, probably 3.73 or 4.10

The 20 is ok. Pretty strong diff and carrier. Weak point is the 2 piece axle shafts. They are not considered as strong at the D44, but with a good rebuild, one piece shafts they are pretty good.

Here is a good article from JP magazine on the AMC 20

The amc20 is a decent rear. My dad has one in the back of his CJ7, it's locked and has 1 piece shafts and it takes abuse well on 35s.

Might wanna check that d44 for vacume disconnect, I think the earlier year driver side drop waggy 44s had that. Can't see your pics well enough on my phone to tell.

If I put new shafts, brace the axle and put whatever new upgraded stuff I can in there. They could hold 36 or 37s with mild trail use. it's my dd till I make it my trail rig
