Have all the tires checked for roundness and proper balance.

Do like Firestorm said and have the tires checked out. You can always rotate the tires and see if the vibration move from the front to the rear. That will tell you if it is the tires or not.

You need to computer balance them and check for roundness as I said. Just moving them around does nothing.

Don't get ahead of yourself. One step at a time, starting with the most likely.

A vibration can be caused by a great many things.

Vibrations in the floor board or seat are usually from the rear. Tires followed by the u-joints are the usual causes. You can often "drive through" a tire vibration as you've noticed, less than 55 and more than 70 its fine. Moving them around does not fix the problem, but helps identify what it is without paying a shop money.

After all that effort, you will still have to pay a shop money to check and computer balance the tires.

Be prepared to buy some.

Just because a tire needs to be rebalanced doesn't mean new tires are needed. Maybe a weight fell off or the lug nuts are loose. Maybe he has lifetime balance and rotation.

"Be prepared" in this case means don't be surprised if there is one or more bad tires causing the vibration.

You can't balance a bad tire. As I said earlier, many different things can cause a vibration. A bad tire certainly can and will.

Just wait until you crash into someone due to the worn tires, see how much scratch you have left then.

At that age, they could be starting to go out. The vibration is telling you something's wrong.

2/32s is the non-skid tread depth. In my state they are illegal after that. I don't run SUV/pickup truck stuff past 4/32s myself.

Actually, I don't even run my cars past that.

Go real slow when it rains.
