Default Valve cover gasket replacement?

Is there any tricks on my 1990 jeep Cherokee to changing the valve cover gasket?

Do not overtighten the bolts.

As mentioned don't over tighten the bolts and crush the gasket. I believe you're suppose to tighten them in a circular pattern starting in the middle and working your way outward. I changed mine 2 times and it still kept leaking so I finally used a producted called The Right Stuff and it's never leaked since.

make sure you clean the gasket surfaces really well before putting on the new one. I used a standard cork gasket on mine, with a THIN layer of RTV black on each side to hold the gasket in place during installation. Tighten the bolts a little at a time in an alternating pattern from the middle, then go back though them again. Repeat until tight. Then a week later torque them down again.

get a felpro gasket with the metal inside the rubber. Then you can crank on it all you want and not worry about over tightening them. The hardest part is removing the old gasket and then removing the farthest bolt back from the bumper. I had to use a u-joint for my socket to remove it and then put it back.
