Maintains consistent level of vacuum. So when manifold vacuum drops things that are vacuum operated still work as they should. Cruise control, AC/heater controls are the two that come to mind right now.
Old cars that had vacuum operated windshield wipers when going up hill would barely move, going down hill wipe like hell.

It's a $5 fix. Get another canister at the wrecking yard. Any canister will do.

You can just plug it and run without it, but your HVAC will not work properly under acceleration. The doors will move back and forth when the vacuum fades.

Here's everything I pulled together on it.

Since your brakes are 'power assisted' by the system vacuum I suppose it would be possible for it to affect the braking. But usually it's only under heavy acceleration that you would notice loss of vacuum to other systems.

But like I said. $5 at the JY and tie it up under the hood. Boom problem solved.

I have a 1998 Cherokee 4.0L and mine fell out when I was replacing the bumpers but I could not find where it plugged in so it never made it off my work bench back to the car. Where does this thing plug in, on the cruise control?
