Default V8 question

Replaced my VC cover gasket yesterday (fel-pro). Noticed this wear spot on the top of the cover though. Didn't see a matching worn area on the lifters. Any idea if this is a bad sign? I don't have any ticking or anything like that. '99 XJ with the venerable 4.0 straight six. 140k on the dash.

Thanks!

Erm, thanks to the mod that moved this from the ask the question thread, but this is a VC off of a '99 XJ straight six. Not a V8, nor a grand cherokee...

If you would kindly move it to the XJ tech I would appreciate that!

Thanks

Now I'm really confused haha. I could swear that I didn't title my post as that, I thought you made the title when you moved it out of the 'ask the question' thread.

I feel like I should just delete this and make a new thread haha. I would love any input though if anyone actually clicks this (can't change the thread title?)

Is the metal deformed or dented in any way? Way back when I had a chevy...it would squirt oil up pretty solid from the rockers. I'm wondering if that is just a clean spot from getten beaned with hot, high detergent oil.

Does it feel like it is warn down by something rubbing on it? If not it maybe just like DFlintstone said.

Thanks guys. The paint around it is sortof bubbled directly around it almost like rust, but that seems pretty implausible, might be being lifted by shooting oil like you said DFlinstone? If its rubbing its very light, no distinct indentations or galling.

Not really. Because, you do get some condensate in there. I have seen small amounts of rust from it in several vehicles that I have owned throughout the years.

You got me. It doesn't look like something I myself would worry about in any case. I wish my Jeep had a clean spot that big!
