URGENT!!! Gear Ratio???
HI, I just opened up my rear diff. and I'm trying to figure my gears out. On the rig gear there are 2 #'s. 46 and 13. My jeep is a 1986 2.5L ax5 tranny ( has a tow system) Any body know my gears or what to do with the #'s. If I recall right don't you divide them?
Thanks and all help is greatley apprieciated.

i am pretty sure if you have the diff open then you can divide the number of slits on the big pinion gear by the number of slits in one of the small spider gears...i am pretty sure??? and sorry i cant remember the name for "slits" at the time

3.55 is your number. Ring gear diameter = 7.562"
Ring gear bolts = (8) 3/8" x 24 RH
Pinion gear diameter = 1/376"
Pinion spline count = 26
Gearing options: 3.07, 3.31, Carrier break 3.55, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56, 4.88
Note: Carrier break means the carrier needs to be changed as well when gearing up or down past this point.

Divide ring gear count by pinion gear count--46/13= 3.53846153846----. The numbers are rounded to nearest. Several gear options were available , mine came with 3.73s and a 2.5 with a 4 speed. Swaped in a 4.0 HO and an ax15 with an np231 Blaaa Blaaa Blaaa Now runnin 4.11

Thanks a bunch!!! How the swap go? I'm thinking I might go with the amc 360..... when my 2.5 dies.
If I were to change out for 4.10's would I need to change the carrier?

3 1/2 weeks to gut both jeeps and build 1. That didn't include the interior that went from tan pleather to grey cloth... Your carrier will accept 4.10 gearing- No new carrier needed.
