So my wifes tranny has been acting up. its an 01 sport 2wd automatic with 153k miles. It only happens in the first gear. It happens frequently but not always. Tranny slips when leaving from a stop, getting back on the gas while rolling at low speeds 5mph, and occasionally when coming to a stop it shifts very hard back into first at almost a complete stop. Im not sure what im gonna be getting into here. Im not very good with transmission work. Does this sound like a sensor or something a flush and filter change may cure? Or am i gonna be looking at a new tranny or rebuild? Thanks for any help you can throw my way.
Sounds like maybe the clutches are toasted in 1st, but I'm not exactly a trans expert so I'd take that with a grain of salt.
My buddie's F150 had similar issues and it was a clogged trans filter. That could be the cause too.

swap in a junkyard tranny yours is fixing to let ya down.
DONT try flushing your transmission !!!
for a bandaid you can add a quart of luccas trans stop slip its not gonna hurt if it makes your fluid level is +1 qt.

I'll check the fluid again in the morning an drop some Lucas in there. See what happens. I wish mine tranny would drop right in hers an I'd look into a beef one for my 4x4 but I know the tail housing an all kinda other stuff would be diff. Like I said I'm pretty mechanically inclined but transmissions might as well be the human brain for me lol

As for getting one from a yard, I'm always skeptical. You just don't know the history.
See if you can shop around and get prices for rebuilds. Then at least you'd (most likely) get a warranty and have new parts.

I had a similar issue 20 000 km ago and replacing the oil and filter fixed it.
cost me 90$ (5 gallon atf oil drum) and a filter. You have to have it done or know someone with the fluid replacement machine.
If the oil has never been changed, you should do it. If it does not fix it entirely you will see a 50% improvement at least for around 100$.
