Transmission fluid type with an almost yes or no answer.
I just did my filter and gasket, and it has been replaced with Mopar ATF has anyone had a aw4 blowout/malfunction on them after changing to mopar atf, and not because the transmission was previously abused and the fluid change caused it to fail.
Reason I am beating a dead horse is I can never get an answer or find one because the thread is an argument for 3 pages........and there is never a conclusion because everyone is so closed minded in there choice of dexron II/II or ATF+4

The AW4 does not use ATF4.
Yes some people get away with it, others dont make it a mile down the road. Do you want to risk it?
The AW4 was built with Mercon/DexIIe in mind (Hence the "DII" stamped plug), that is no longer around so we use Dexron III.

Dexron II fluid IS NOT recommended. Clutch

fluid when new is red in color. The ATF is dyed red
so it can be identified from other fluids used in the
vehicle such as engine oil or antifreeze. The red color
is not permanent and is not an indicator of fluid condition. As the vehicle is driven, the ATF will begin to
look darker in color and may eventually become
brown. This is normal. A dark brown/black fluid
accompanied with a burnt odor and/or deterioration
in shift quality may indicate fluid deterioration or
transmission component failure.

If you just emptied the pan, half of the old fluid stays in the tranny. That means if you changed the very first Dexron II with ATF4 you will now have 50-50. If you change that as well to put new Dexron III, you will have 25% of old DexII, 25% of ATF4 and 50% of DexIII. I suggest you flush the tranny.

Well idk how old the other fluid was it didn't look or smell burnt, but one problem idk if it was dexron III, or ATF +4

I know this is a couple days old but DO NOT flush your trans, what makes a trans shift a littler firmer after a service is because you just put new fluid in it,the old you took out is thinner then the new and your clutches are worn also so the new thick fluid makes up the difference in the clutch packs which gives you a firmer shift. Firm shifts are good it means the trans is not slipping
